The installation work of the much-needed pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generation plant has finally begun at District Hospital Dimapur.

The minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, updated on Saturday through a tweet that the installation of the oxygen plant would be “completed at the earliest for the benefit and welfare of the people”.

“We are doing all we can for public safety, in the meantime be cooperative and follow all SOPs to overcome this battle,” he added.

It may be mentioned that the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft had airlifted equipment for installation of three oxygen plants in Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung in two consignments — on April 30 and May 6.

The state’s Health officials had said that these three oxygen generation plants are being taken up under the PM Cares Fund, while similar facilities for the remaining eight district hospitals will be set by the United Nations Children’s Fund (six plants) and the United Nations Development Programme (two plants).

Phom had said during inspection of the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on May 5 that installation of oxygen generation plant at the facility (NHAK) was on the verge of completion and would be functional within 10 days.

Oxygen generation plant will become operational only after receiving certification from authorities in New Delhi.
