Landowners whose lands are being occupied by the army in Dimapur district have stated that they will press the authorities to ensure ‘norms and conditions’ are followed ‘while issuing land pattas to non locals’. The Dimapur landowners and “pattadars” (deed holders) forum whose lands are under the army’s occupation in Dimapur held an emergency general meeting on May 26 in the auditorium of the Science Centre in Dimapur town. The landowners deliberated on various issues pertaining to their land, the group informed in a note issued to the media on Wednesday.
“The house raised a number of issues regarding pending matter of land, lease deed preparation and non-transparency in dealing it over the years, allotment of pattas to non locals and relevant mater. Various members spoke during the meeting on the issue,” the statement from the landowners said.
“The house pointed out that norms and conditions must be followed by the responsible authority based on datta in the electoral roll while issuing land pattas to non locals. The house resolved to cooperate and act together whenever necessary and adopted resolution to push forward the issue”. The organization has selected a “forward group” to undertake the task. 67 members of the group attended the meeting, the landowners informed.
