Over 90 wrestlers to compete in NWA meet

Over 90 wrestlers would be competing in the 24th Naga Style, 9th Senior and 5th Junior Wrestling Tournament organised by Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) starting March 4 at Kohima Local Ground.NWA president Nikhrolo Khalo said that the Naga style champion, which has 54 wrestlers comprising 18 each from Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang tribe would be held tomorrow while the free style wrestling would be held on Wednesday.
Former champion Megosier Khate, who is also the reigning champ of Angami Sports Association Wrestling Meet 2014 would also be vying for the coveted title along with champions of Chakhesang and Zeliang tribes.
Khalo informed that after thorough deliberation, the NWA executives have decided to complete the Naga style wrestling within one day, but depending on the weather condition.
The decision was taken following the appeal of the three units of Nagaland Wrestling Association i.e the Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association, he said.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will declare the tournament open at 9:00 am tomorrow while Minister for Planning & Coordination, Geology & mining and Evaluation, T R Zeliang will be guest of honour during the prize distribution ceremony.
Meanwhile, the winners in Naga style will receive cash award of Rs. 2 lakh, runners-up – Rs. 1.5 lakh, third place – Rs. 1 lakh and fourth place – Rs. 50,000 while quarter-finalist will receive Rs. 10,000 each and the group champion will get Rs. 15,000 with running trophy.
