Over 10,000 mobile connection verifications requested in northeast

DIMAPUR — According to the Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAFCOP) data for the Northeast circle, there have been 10,704 requests to verify the number of mobile connections taken in individuals’ names.

Out of these, 9,001 mobile number connections have been resolved, while 1,703 requests are still in progress as of May 26, 2024.

Sanchar Saathi portal is a citizen centric initiative of the Department of Telecommunications to empower mobile subscribers, strengthen their security and increase awareness about citizen centric initiatives of the government.

It empowers citizens by allowing them to know the mobile connections issued in their name, get disconnected the connections either not taken by them or not required by them, block and trace stolen/lost mobile phones and check the genuineness of devices while buying a new/old mobile phone. Sanchar Saathi facilitates citizens for reporting of suspected fraud.

A cumulative total of 71,00,250 requests have been received to verify the number of mobile connections registered under individuals’ names; out of these, 62,26,002 mobile connections have been successfully resolved, while 8,74,248 mobile connection requests are currently in progress.

Further, as per the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in Nagaland, a total of 21 mobile phones have been recovered, 198 mobile phones have been traced, and 275 phones have been blocked.

Across the country, a total of 16,67,407 mobile phones have been blocked, 9,39,970 mobile phones have been traced, and 1,40,947 mobile phones have been recovered.
