Dimapur, Sep. 24 (EMN): In a bid to increase awareness about violence against women and children and the impact it has, the Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) of Zunheboto has been organising intensive advocacy programmes in all the blocks of Zunheboto district.

The OSC conducted a seminar about the issue of violence against women and children, consecutively at Atoizu, Akuhaito, VK, Satoi, Saptiqa and Satakha in Zunheboto district.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates on Sep. 24 informing about the events.

Members of various departments including the Police department, Medical department, and students, Gaon Burah and Doubashi, and community and church leaders attended the programmes, the IPR stated.

The members of the OSC gave introductions to the people about the functioning of the centre, the range of services and the importance of the women helpline ‘181’ for aggrieved women. They explained various aspects of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006, and advised against child marriage. It is one of the root causes of domestic violence, they said, according to the IPR’s report.

Various other aspects of cyber crime, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2015, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act of 2015, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act of 2012 and child rights were also a point of discourse during the events, the IPR informed.

In the session for feedback, the participants at the programme discussed suggestive measures to cater effectively to aggrieved women and children, the IPR’s updates stated.
