DIMAPUR — A six-day cultural-cum-literary and annual sports meet of the Oriental College in Kohima got underway on October 4 with Dr. Hovithal Sothu, project director of Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), as the special guest of the opening ceremony.

In his address, Sothu emphasised the significance of embracing and respecting one’s own culture, stating that “by loving and respecting your own culture, you learn to respect others’ as well,” an update stated. He encouraged the students to not only excel academically but also to strive for excellence beyond the classroom.

He also urged them to embark on a journey of self-discovery, to search within themselves and uncover their unique talents and hone them. By doing so, Sothu affirmed that society would no longer have mediocre individuals but rather individuals who are the best in their respective fields.

Vikeyienuo Rutsa, assistant professor of Tenyidie, said the invocation prayer and Dr. Khriereizhünuo Dzüvichü, principal of Oriental College, delivered the welcome address.

A special performance was presented by the Eastern cultural troupe.

The programme was chaired Nito Khulu, assistant professor of Political Science.

The literary day on October 5 witnessed various activities like group song, poetry recitation, extempore speech, debate, spelling bee and sculpture competitions.

The event, which would culminate on October 9, is to foster creativity, teamwork and sportsmanship among students, it stated.
