Organising “Disorganised” Christmas Carnival

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he news of defiNative Inc. organising Christmas Carnival at Agri Expo Site, 4th Mile Dimapur from December 9 to 15 initially sounded exciting with anticipation that it will invoke the spirit of festive season and enable the people to diplay and sell their products in different stalls.
But the excitement turned into anger when the organisers did not do their home work.
The opening night was rather a disappointing one because the organisers could not only provide the main source of joy, “Electricity” but also did not attend the phone call made to enquire about absence of electricity in the stalls set up by them.
If we check the words of the organisers in their facebook page it talks of light, fun, bright colorful lanterns, enjoyment…and so forth. But where are they? This is exactly what defiNative Inc. said in their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/ChristmasCarnival/182182721975165?id=182182721975165&sk=info about Christmas Carnival: “defiNative Inc. welcomes you to the opening nite of our 1st Christmas Carnival. join us in our celebration and enjoy an amazing with bright colorful lanterns, candlelit tables, splendor buffet with mixed cuisine, dance and song by talented upcoming artist for entertainment! Experience this festive season like never before with endless fun, shopping, entertainment & many more fascinating &intriguing tour. We provide you the opportunity to be a part of this fabulous carnival with rewarding & lucrative offer of owning a stall.”
Unfortunately, the key ingredient to realisation of all those stuff they mentioned was missing in the opening night of the Christmas Carnival, ie, “The Electricity”. The organisers has set up at least 80 stalls charging each Rs. 4000/- (Inclusive of electricity too). But it now appears that the money paid to run a stall is wasted.
My sister is one of the lessee of the said stall and she was annoyed the whole time she was there. As the dark approached we expected the electricity to brighten up the area so as to start the “rewarding & lucrative offer of owning a stall” could offer.
But that expectation turned into utter anger because they started saying “We have misplaced the generator”, “We did not realize that there was no fuel in the generator”, and “Some technical problem with our generator”. So many reasons within 45 minutes when enquired about the electricity for the stalls.
How can you provide an electricity to all the stalls with small generator (We have misplaced the generator)? How can you be so carless and irresponsible (We did not realize that there was no fuel in the generator and Some technical problem with our generator) after taking money from the stalls?
After providing those ridiculous responses the organizers vanished and stopped attending the phone calls. There was not even a single volunteer in the vicinity to assist the complaint made with regards to failing to provide electricity.
Moreover, there were no security people around in case something unwanted happens. Is this a way to organize a big and secure event?
The festive season that Christmas Carnival brought to Dimapurians was disappointing.
They started the carnival with mobile phone lights. Many people anticipating that the carnival would be warm and bright as promised by defiNative Inc. went home dissatisfied.
But how about the stall owners? Are they receiving the worth they paid for? The light finally came around 5:50 PM and unsurprisingly was blacked out after 25 minutes. The stall area was supposed to be closed by 7:00 PM. So, what did the stall owners do without electricity? Pack their products (for many it was perishable products) and go home.
I hope the organizers will take note of the things that went wrong on Monday evening so that it won’t be repeated on the remaining days of Christmas Carnival at Agri Expo Site.

Merry Christmas
Sincerely,
Hukai Awomi
Brother of disgruntled
stall owner
Christmas Carnival.
