DIMAPUR — Several organisations across Nagaland have strongly condemned the brutal murder of a young mother from Mhaikam village, who was alleged killed after being raped by unknown miscreants.
The lifeless body of a woman vegetable vendor from Mhaikam village was found murdered on April 7 between Mhaikam and Pimla village.
The organisations stated that such heinous and horrific act of violence was not only a grave violation of human rights and dignity, but also a stark reminder of the deep rooted threats that women continue to face in the society. It urged the law enforcement agencies to conduct a swift and time-bound probe as per the laws to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and arrested without delay.

The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has appealed
to the government to establish a strong and effective mechanism to prevent
crimes against women, while the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DCC) has termed
the incident not only an assault on humanity but also a glaring failure of
governance to protect vulnerable citizens. It has demanded swift and
transparent investigation as well as provide financial aid, counseling and
legal assistance to the victim’s family.
The Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) and Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur (ZSUD) have demanded capital punishment under the law against those responsible with zero tolerance and no leniency, while the Western Sümi Students’ Union (WSSU), Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF), Pimla Village Council (PVC) and Aqahuto Area Students’ Union (AASU) have demand the administration and law enforcement agencies to treat the case with utmost urgency and ensure that no stone is left unturned in identifying and arresting the perpetrators. It also urged the authorities to put in place stronger protective mechanism, particularly for women working in informal sectors who are often the most at risk and the least protected.
The Angami Women Organisation (AWO), Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU) stated that despicable crime was not only a violation of her dignity and life but also an attack on the safety and security of women at large. It added that the tragedy not only robbed a young child of his mother but also threatened the social fabric, creating fear and insecurity among the women and all peace-loving individuals.
The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), Dimapur Lotha Youth Organisation (DLYO) and Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) have extended solidarity with the victim’s family and the entire Zeliangrong community during the time of pain and sorrow. It stated that reprehensible act, perpetrated by a heartless individual, was an affront to humanity and a stain on our society.
The minority wing of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) too has condemned condemn the egregious act and demanded the perpetrators be apprehended and punished in an exemplary manner.
