Organisations condemn assault on a 19-year-old student in Kiphire and demand strict legal action against the accused.

DIMAPUR — Multiple organisations have condemned the physical assault and alleged attempt to murder a 19-year-old female student in Kiphire on May 1.
The victim was allegedly assaulted on the night of her 19th birthday. She is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dimapur. The accused has been identified as Repongli, a resident of Jail Ward in Kiphire town.
The Kiphire Area Students’ Union (KASU), in a condemnation note, stated that the incident is deeply disappointing and damaging, and it severely undermines the peaceful coexistence, safety, and dignity of society, particularly the safety of women.
It demanded that the concerned authorities take immediate, proper, and stringent action against the accused in accordance with the law.

KASU further called upon all civil societies, student bodies, and right-thinking citizens to denounce such barbaric acts and work together to uphold peace and justice in the area.
The Sitimi Area Sangtam Students’ Union (SASSU) issued a statement acknowledging the prompt action taken by law enforcement in apprehending the accused but stated that arrest alone does not constitute justice.
The union demanded that the accused not be granted undue leniency or bail and categorically rejected any attempt to resolve the matter outside the ambit of the law.
The Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) demanded a fair, swift, and uncompromising investigation. The union demanded that the accused be booked under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
The Langzanger Village Students’ Union (LVSU) stated that the act of violence has caused mental, physical, and emotional trauma to the victim and her family. It urged the authorities to take stringent action against the perpetrator to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Meanwhile, the International Human Rights Council, Kiphire Board, termed the incident a clear violation of a person's right to life, safety, and dignity.
The council urged authorities to carry out a prompt, fair, and thorough investigation, noting that observers from the council are closely watching the progress of the case to ensure transparency and fairness in the justice system.
