DIMAPUR — An oral health awareness programme, highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco, was organised by the National Oral Health Programme and District Tobacco Control Cell, Phek, at the DEF Headquarters, SP Office in Phek, on April 30.

A total of 60 police officers participated in the awareness programme, which was followed by a free medical examination, according to a DIPR report.

Dr. Pritpal Kaur Batra, Superintendent of Police, Phek, who is also a dentist, speaking on the occasion, elaborated on the causes and impacts of oral cancer. She urged police personnel to refrain from using tobacco products. She also encouraged the police personnel present to encourage their friends and family members to avoid consuming tobacco.

Dentist surgeon Dr. Kihito, from District Hospital, Phek, also briefed on the non-consumption of tobacco, reminding those addicted to it to stop consuming it. Neiweii Losu, a psychologist from DTCC, Phek, highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco.
