Dimapur, Nov. 29 (EMN): Former chief minister and chairman of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), TR Zeliang, said the coming together of the NPF and NDPP to form an opposition-less government in the state was with an aim to strengthen one regional party for the cause of Naga political issue.

“We have seen the positive result of an opposition-less government in the past as the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position were signed in the year 2015 and 2017 respectively, when we had an opposition-less government,” the UDA chairman said.

Zeliang was speaking at the consultative meeting of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of 7-Peren assembly constituency, held at the former’s residence in Peren district on Tuesday, informed an update.

“Now again under the leadership of chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, an opposition-less government is formed and with this positive step, the UDA government continues to sincerely facilitate for an early Naga solution,” he said.

Clarifying that the top brass of NDPP and BJP have come together and taken the decision for 40:20 seat sharing formula, Zeliang asked the party workers not to be carried away by rumors and speculations “that this is not the final decision.”

He called upon the party men and women to work together as one unit without any reservation and ill feelings towards one another, though they might have been in different parties in the past.

“The office of the NPF 7 Peren A/C dissolved en-bloc and has merged to NDPP. Now we are one and though in 2018 election there were two parties in the election viz. NPF and NDPP, with this merging there is only one party under 7 A/C,” he said.

He, however, stated that the fate of state general election 2023 would depend on the outcome of the much awaited Naga political solution, which the whole Nagas are longing.

On NDPP ticket issue, he said the parliamentary board would take a final call on the ticket issue and that it will depend on the winnability of the candidates.

Former NLA Speaker and NDPP Peren district in-charge, Neiba Ndang,  in his address, called upon the party workers not to discriminate between themselves on lines of old NDPP members or new NDPP members.

“A party is not owned by an individual or a family but rather a party is collectively owned by party workers,” Ndang said and added that the discussion on the issue of party ticket is premature at the present stage.

Hiarutlang, working president of Peren region; I Daniel Hemang; Isipet, president of Youth Wing 7 Peren A/C; Hupun Zeliang, vice president CEB, and Kelei Zeliang, also spoke on the occasion.

Later, the meeting adopted two-point resolution. The meeting resolved that the NDPP 7 A/C Peren shall work in perfect coordination with all the erstwhile NPF members who merged into NDPP to strengthen the party and the position of the incumbent MLA in the constituency.

It also resolved that the 7 A/C Peren will work tirelessly to strengthen the hands of chief minister Neiphiu Rio and NDPP president Chingwang Konyak.
