Opium and cannabis, vehicles with dubious registration and vehicle theft, the police have been at least keeping an eye on less sensitive offence across Dimapur. The Dimapur police have arrested a number of persons and charged with various counts of offense. The Dimapur authorities issued a press release on Monday offering updates.
On February 11, zone-II police personnel arrested one person identified as Tsatongse Sangtam from GS Road in Dimapur for possession of approximately two kilograms of opium. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered and “is under investigation,” the police said.
On the 8th, personnel of the women’s police cell arrested from the railway station two persons identified on charges of smuggling. The accused were identified as one Manu Kumar and a Shyamrati Chaudari, both hailing from Bihar. They were found in possession of 27 kilograms of cannabis, the police said, ‘The contraband was found neatly packed and wrapped as gifts in 10 packets. A case is registered under the NDPS Act and is under investigation,’ the press release added.
Also, four persons have been arrested “in connection with recovery” of a motorcycle that was found plying with fake registration plates and also possession of fake smart cards.
The press release stated: “On 06.02.2016, personnel under East Police Station Dimapur seized on Bajaj Discover from the possession of one Khetoka Yepthomi s/o Heshito Yepthomi of Borolengri. Investigation into the case led to the arrest of other co-accused identified as Vinoto Sumi s/o Kahuto of Borolengri, Botoi Awomi s/o Vinoto & Nito Kiba s/o Vihoto of Notun Bosti, Dimapur.”
Also, personnel of East Police Station have recovered a Bajaj Pulsar bearing the registration NL-07 M 5797, which was reported stolen on 30.09.2015.
In this connection, one person identified as Gifto Kiho of VK Town has been arrested.
