Dimapur, Aug. 8 (EMN): The chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Awan Konyak inaugurated ‘open house,’ a pilot initiative of the Task Force for Music and Arts (Tafma), on August 3 in the town council hall in Mon.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates on August 8 to the media informing about the programme.

During the programme, Konyak said that the initiative taken by the Tafma will help to ‘handpick, nurture and provide a platform’ for talented people in every nook and corner of Nagaland in the field of music and arts. She said the establishment of the Tafma is the brainchild of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. She thanked the agency for the privilege given to Mon district to launch the initiative for the entire state.

The advisor of the Tafma, Theja Meru, addressed the event. He said the concept of ‘open house’ is new. It seeks to promote musicians at the grass root level in the form of a mini-concert set up, and to nurture new talent besides providing a platform for musicians of all ages and genres.

The Tafma is an initiative of the chief minister, and is an all-inclusive project.
‘It just does not focus on music but also all other arts,’ he said. Meru lauded the people of Mon district for entering in the Guinness Book of World Records for its impressive display by about 5000 Konyak women dancing at once. It is something that will inspire the Naga people for ages to come, he added.

The deputy commissioner of Mon district, Thavaseelan K, also gave a speech. He thanked the Tafma for inaugurating Open House in Mon for the whole state. The Tafma is a brilliant initiative by the chief minister and the government to boost the morale of artists in various fields, he said.

“There will now be a much needed impetus on not just in music but also all other arts,’ he said.
Thavaseelan said that the initiative is to showcase not just talented musicians but also dancers and authors. He indicated that the Open House will be organized every month and a request has been made to the Tafma to take the platform to the subdivisions too.

The Music Task Force was rebranded as ‘Tafma’ in accordance with the vision of the government of Nagaland to revamp and give new directions to the music industry and other art forms, the IPR stated. The vision of Open House is to organise a monthly events to promote musicians of all genres from rock to pop, fusion to folk, and dance and other art forms, the updates stated.

“Talented artists from the district level would then get a chance to perform at the state level,” the IPR stated.
