Only ‘Naga by blood’ leaders can address Naga issue, says hoho

The Naga Hoho has made it clear to all that only true-blooded Naga persons, “Nagas by blood” that is, and not those who are identified within the Naga citizenry by assimilation, must addresses issues relating to the people’s nationalism and the identity.The resolution was among others that the leadership of the Naga tribal organizations undertook during the tenth general session of the Naga Hoho in Wokha on November 26. A copy of the resolutions undertaken by the organisation was received here today.
The Naga Hoho has advised tribal and civil organizations to be ‘cautious’ when choosing leadership “in the context of national issues and identity of the Naga people.”
“In order to protect our unique identity as enshrined under the Naga Hoho constitution, the Naga Hoho shall always stick to ‘Nagas by blood and not by assimilation’. Towards achieving this goal, every Naga organizations and tribe hohos should be cautious enough in choosing leadership in the context of national issues and the identity of the Naga people,” the resolution stated.
The Naga Hoho session also noted that the ceasefire between the Government of India and what the hoho called the “national governments”, has been “bouncing back and forth for the past sixteen glorious years with no positive settlement.”
The Naga Hoho shall ‘strengthen the hands of political negotiators and thereby finding a rightful place to survive as a nation,’ the hoho said. It did not explain how it would and in what way it would ‘strengthen the hands of political negotiators.’
The Naga Hoho also reaffirmed to “nurture the Naga national aspiration” which the organization claimed is the foundation of ‘our people’. The Naga Hoho stated: “It shall fight against the visible indicators that are emerging to distort the very fabric of Naga movement and thereby remain firm towards putting our historical and political rights in the right perspective.
On the question of unity and reconciliation among the Naga people, the Naga Hoho shall built a road map based on reasons, conciliatory but not emotions. While making the road map, Naga national goal should not be diluted and certain mechanism should bring out based on mutual trust and respecting one another.”
The organization was of the opinion that “our adversaries have succeeded by dividing Nagas into Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Myanmar.”
In this regard, the Naga Hoho shall “ceaselessly work for Naga integration under the principle ‘one people, one nation’”, the resolution stated. “In order to achieve this goal, the Naga Hoho and the tribe hohos shall rise above vested interest, tribe interest and harness the collective interest of the Naga people as a whole,” the hoho said.
