Kohima, July 3 (EMN): Principal Director for School Education, Shanavas C, on Friday said that the department’s survey on tele/radio online education with school heads is to establish findings for consideration of the grey areas that would ‘forge wholesome education’.
Shanavas informed this to journalists a day after he had notified the school heads, directing them to participate in the survey on online education, which the department had initiated since May.
He reiterated that in the month of June, evaluation for classes 8, 9, 10 and 12 had a participation of about 25,000 students per day, while online classes were conducted for classes 5, 6 and 7. He maintained that it would be conducting online evaluation from July 9 till July 17, and appealed to the students for support and good participation.
The officer stated that the survey period is from July 3 till the 5th, which seeks to collect information from the school’s head—the teachers’ status, how many are in station, about the enrolment of students in different classes, how many are able to access the online education, and availability of facilities in the schools.
Shanavas maintained that owing to the uncertainty of the lockdown in the state, the mode of education that is in place needs to continue; adding that the department, through the survey, is also seeking suggestions from the teachers that can be incorporated in the next phase of education.
He stated that the department is anticipating the head of schools to fill up the survey consisting of 10 questions during the stipulated period.
Shanavas revealed that the department’s plan to reach the students who do not have access to the online mode due to connectivity problems and accessibility of facilities would be to make use of the 295 Common Service Centre (CSC) in the state, under the Information Technology department.
He informed that the department of School Education would collaborate with the centres so that the notes are passed to the centres and the school teachers can collect the same and reach out to the students.
He maintained that both offline and online material would be functional and reach out to each student.
When asked about the state Education department being featured along with other foreign countries in an online educational journal of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), he replied: “Of course, it’s a great encouragement and motivation; and we have to focus more and ensure that development of even a single child is not left out in the state. We have to work more and ensure that it reaches every corner in the state.”
Meanwhile, the officer also took to Twitter later in the evening to inform the students regarding the online admission for class 11.
He urged all those who have not completed the ‘locking and payment of fees’ to do it at the earliest; and informed that the facility would be open till 4 pm of July 4.
