Diphu, Sep. 8 (EMN): A police personnel has been arrested at Diphu on Saturday in a molestation case. The accused was allegedly trying to molest a 29-year old woman in Diphu. A case has been registered against him under various sections of SC/ST atrocities act.

According to the victim’s statement that was given a week ago, she along with her daughter entered a hotel in police reserve to ask for water to drink. At that time a police personnel also came to the same location and asked for her mobile number. The victim declined, on which the accused snatched her mobile and entered his number and told the victim to call him in the number. He then asked her to come to his place.

There were repeated calls made by the accused to the victim. Then on Sep. 2 the accused met the victim at Lorulangso daily market and grabbed her, the victim stated.

After coming to know of the incident, women organisations like Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) led by Meerina Beypi and Karbi Anglong Women Justice Forum (KAWJF) including Karbi Students Union, Karbi Farmers Committee and Karbi Human Rights Watch (KHRW) had taken up the matter to arrest the errant police personnel.

A case has been registered Case No.188/2018 under sections 294/354A/354D IPC and other section 3 (r    (ii) of SC/ST atrocities act.

However, when media persons queried the accused in Diphu Police station, the accused said that he does not know the woman and instead the women claimed that she was his relative.
