Mokokchung, Dec. 2 (EMN): One person died while another suffered serious injuries in a tragic road accident at NH-2 in Mokokchung district on Wednesday.
Police Outpost at Chuchuyimlang informed that a Mahindra Scorpio met with an accident between Chuchuyimlang and Unger village on NH-2 at around 11 am, where the 2-lane road is currently under construction.
Police added that the vehicle was occupied by a family of seven, which included four adults and three minors. They were on their way to Changtongya, the police added.
They said that the vehicle hit a stationary vehicle and plunged 200 feet into a steep slope.
Fortunately, they were some people from Chuchuyimlang village around the vicinity of the accident site, who reported it to the police outpost.
Yarentoshi I/C Police Outpost along with dobashi to EAC Chuchuyimlang, Alemtetba rushed to the accident site after hearing of the incident, the Chuchuyimlang Village Council chairman said.
The police along with the help of Chuchuyimlang volunteers rescued the occupants and immediately transported the victims to the PHC Chuchuyimlang for first aid and shifted them to Mokokchung, Police informed.
However, the police informed that a woman succumbed to her injuries on her way to the PHC. They reported that the youngest among the occupants miraculously escaped unhurt but an adult male was critically injured and four others sustained minor injuries.
The critically injured victim has been taken to Guwahati for further treatment while the deceased has been handed over to the closest kin after conducting post-mortem at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, to perform the last rite, a source said.
Mokokchung traffic police personnel were conducting investigation at the incident site while filing this report.
