One person arrested in Kohima on charge of alleged child abuse

Dimapur, Nov. 7 (EMN): One person has been arrested in Kohima on charge of alleged child abuse, after a ‘Zero FIR’ was filed on November 3 at Dimapur women police station. The incident occurred in Kohima.
Zero FIR is lodged in any police station irrespective of the location of incidence or jurisdiction.
One of the members of Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Dimapur, informed that it would not be possible to provide any details concerning the case as it was sub judice.
According to her, the victim fled from her employee’s house in Kohima on October 2 and took refuge at her relative’s place in Dimapur.
With the help of her cousins, the victim was admitted to Sakhi One Stop Centre Dimapur (SOSC), after which workers at the centre reported the incident to the CWC.
Citing the victim’s statement, the CWC member said that she had worked at her employer’s house for about four to five years and the abuse started just a few days after she started working there.
The CWC member informed that a ‘Zero FIR’ was registered on November 3 at Dimapur women police station and the case has been transferred to Women police station, Kohima which was also confirmed by the additional deputy commissioner (Crime) of Dimapur police, Relo Aye.
The CWC member informed that according to the Kohima police update, the accused person has been arrested and in police custody currently.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act and India Penal Code.
The CWC member added that since the child is in need of care and protection, the CWC has taken custody of the child and at the moment, she is at one of the child welfare institutes. She is being provided with counselling, it was informed.
