The IGAR (N) has claimed that the Assam Rifles posted at Anatongre village in Kiphire district “neutralized” an NSCN (K) activist and “seriously wounded” another, in an early morning shootout on Sunday.
A press statement from the IGAR (N) on Sunday stated that Assam Rifles post at Anatongre village were fired upon by NSCN (K) cadres in the early morning hours today. “The Assam Rifles post at Anutongre is located in midst of the village and the firing carried out by the insurgents at the post endangered the lives of the innocent civilians residing near the Assam Rifles post. “Such incident only reflects the true nefarious design of NSCN (K) who are willing to disrupt the peace and tranquility of Nagaland state at the cost of innocent civilian lives. It is suspected that during the exchange of fire, one cadre has been neutralized and one has been seriously wounded. The civil population has expressed anguish and resentment against the firing by NSCN (K) cadres,” the statement read.
