One NSCN (K) activist caught by Assam Rifles

An activist of the underground group NSCN (K) is reported to have been apprehended by troopers of the 5th Assam Rifles from Zunheboto town on January 16. The Assam Rifles issued a press release on Wednesday, February 3, informing about the event.
According to the security force, a search operation was carried out in the old town, of Zunheboto, on January 16 by personnel of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of headquarter 7-sector Assam Rifles.
“During the search with police representatives, Wilson H Chishi, son of Mr Hotoi Chishi Swe was apprehended along with recovery of one point 22 pistol, one improvised explosive device and assorted ammunitions,” the press release stated.
“In addition, large numbers of extortion notes signed by Wilson as central secretary, western military operation addressed to all government officials of Zunheboto including the deputy commissioner, Zunheboto, district agriculture officer, land resource development agency and chief manager, State Bank of India, Zunheboto branch were also recovered.”
The extortion and illegal tax collection by various underground factions is a menace on the state and directly affects the common man, the security force stated.
“The apprehended cadre was handed over to the Zunheboto police station. The arrest of NSCN (K) SS central secretary western military operation is a major blow to the banned outfit and was applauded by the citizens and Sumi apex bodies of Zunheboto,” the statement added.
