One more death from ULB violence

Dimapur, Feb. 6: A 50-year-old man, who had sustained serious injuries in a tussle that broke out at Longkhim town on January 31 night in connection with elections to urban local bodies, succumbed to the injuries on Sunday last at Dimapur. Sources identified the victim as Tsapise Sangtam.

Elections to the Longkhim Town Council was scheduled to be held on February 1 but, on the night of January 31, an altercation between those opposing the elections and those support it broke out.
In the altercation, Tsapise sustained head injuries and was brought to Dimapur for treatment. In the aftermath of the violence, the elections to Longkhim Town Council was cancelled.

On Monday, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) issued a condolence message at the demise of Tsapise Sangtam. “The sacrifice made by late Tsapise for the cause of Nagas’ right would go down in the history of the Nagas and not in vain. The ENPO expressed its sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace,” it stated.
