The officer in charge of Longthu police station, KP Lotha said that five occupants of a Black Scorpio including the driver were en-route to Medemyim village from Dimapur to attend a funeral when the accident occurred at around 2 pm. According to the officer, the vehicle rolled down 50 feet below the road and landed in a maize field; killing one person on the spot, while the other occupants sustained injuries. The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Imlineken from Mongchen village, a resident of Dimapur, it was informed. The border magistrate of Tzurangkong informed that the injured persons were provided first aid at PHC, Tzurangkong; afterwards, three persons were shifted to another hospital for further treatment. He also added that the victim’s body has been handed over to the relatives. Police suspects that slippery road condition and ‘steering failure’ might have caused the tragic incident.
