One held for raping minor in Karbi Anglong

DIPHU — Manja Police under Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday arrested one person on charges of raping a minor girl. The rape accused was identified as Munu Ali (20) of Hidim Teron village under Manja police station.

The incident came to light after filing a missing complaint by the victim’s family members.

The incident occurred on October 23 night when the girl was returning home from the Durga Puja celebration in her neighbourhood. It alleged that the accused Ali and his accomplices sexually assaulted her after escorting her into the jungle.

It stated that the victim was found in an unconscious state on the following day on the bank of Manja River.

After knowing about the incident, the irate locals gathered at the Manja police station and blocked the NH-29 for a moment and demanded the accused persons to be handed over to them.

The angry mob also destroyed the house of the accused.

A case has been registered at Manja police station case No.35/23 of IPC sections 363/376 (3)  of the POCSO Act and section R/W 4 of the POCSO Act.
