Our Correspondent IMPHAL,February 1 Manipur has adequate potential to become a special economic zone in term of "health care and Education services" in the South Asian region considering its geo-location advantages and human resources, says Chairman cum Managing Director(CMD) of Shija Hospital and Research Institute(SHRI) Dr Khundongbam Palin.Dr Palin was speaking as a resource person in the 'one-day general discussion on health care system in Manipur' with special reference to 'relation between doctor, Nurses and patients' at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Sunday. Stating that Manipur which is bordering Myanmar is located at a junction between other 10 south-east Asian countries, CMD of SHRI said, "When we analyzed, we can think of Health Education sector services which can be offered from the state.” Supporting his statement, he added that the state doesn't have big manufacturing plant and the percentage of the essential commodities required by the state are all imported from other parts of the country. He further stated that the state could have its own super-specialty health care institute or even organ transplantation centre(s) if the total amount of money spent on pursuing MBBS course by students of the region in other countries such as China, Bangladesh etc, is calculated and utilized properly. Giving an exceptional operational view for the establishment of a healthcare centre, Dr Palin further stated that "health care is a serious sector, in terms of service or business" because of it deals with human life directly. He also stressed that it's a kind of place that can't be done any concealments. Sharing his feeling he said, "We exist because of them. The doctors and health institutes would cease to exist if patients fails to attend them.” Echoing a similar experience as a resource person, Special Gynaecologist Associate Prof Dr K Paikhomba of JNIMS highlighted that many conflicts between doctors and patients or patient parties erupted due to exchanges of hard and petulant words between them. He added that it is crucial to bridge up any communication gaps or address any misunderstanding situations that may arise to improve the doctor-patients relationship. Highlighting many issues faced by the doctors and also acknowledging the patients and its relatives concerns, he also expressed that the doctors often come across stress while taking care of the patients or after performing duties inside the operation theatres. He added that when controversies arise in such situation between heath care service providers or patients and its parties, it may give a negative impact to patient's health care. Taking notes to the media person’s roles and its reports, Dr Paikhomba also appealed to the concerned parties for a balance media report in an effort to improve the doctor-patient relationship.
