KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 7: In a delayed report, one body of a man who got drowned last week at Dzüdza River was found late Monday evening.
According to sources, the man, who reportedly worked as a labourer at stone quarry under Jotsoma village, was washed away by the strong current. He reportedly got drowned on August 30, last Tuesday.
Following the incident, the youths of Jotsoma village and other labourers carried out an intensive search for the missing man till September, but to no avail.
Though the concerned quarry owner and Jotsoma youth had filed an FIR at Sechü Zubza Police Station, the matter was not reported widely as they suspected that the missing man could have gone anywhere.
Sources disclosed that no one had a clear report as to where the missing man could have gone. It was only on mere suspicion that they carried out the search in the river for four days.
Sources said the missing man, along with his friends use to camp somewhere above the Dzüdza river. To go down to the road (National Highway), they had to cross the river without the help of any bridge, it was informed. And that was where the suspicion that he could have been drowned grew more.
The missing man was last seen by his friends on Tuesday morning. He left their camp in the morning to go down to the road, but no one had a single clue that he got drowned.
The drowned body was spotted by some people who went fishing on September 5 evening. The matter was reported to the police by 6 p.m. Only then, the police and some villagers rushed to the spot, but it was reported that they spent most of the time not being able to cross the river. The body was on the other side of the river, towards Meriema village.
According to sources from the police and Jotsoma youths, the deceased was cremated at the spot itself. He was found with maximum scratch marks and severe injuries. With the body found only after seven days, the body went almost unrecognizable, except the proof of his physical size.
The man has been identified as one Kanu Topno, son of Kareaya Topno of Baritola village under Khutti district of Jharkhand State. It was only two months back where he came to work at the stone quarry, it was informed.
