The current trend of the Naga society of the aftermath of MP election 2014, in Manipur is bewildering. Blaming and burdening each other for the failure in making the right representative as Peoples’ MP is absurd and unbecoming for a decent society as ours. I had a numbers of consultations with the leaders of the Church, associations and civil organizations on the growing crises and hatreds manifesting in the society, the leaders expresses great disappointments and displeasure over the prevailing ugly games. Citing the recent UNC boycotting Mani Charenamei as one glaring picture and an act of immaturity for a civic Organization as UNC to have committed wrong step when the world are pacing with the third generation civilization.
The news item, “UNC boycotts former outer MP Charenamei” in The Sangai express; 15 June 2014, is simply seen as defacing the image of UNC and its authority more than the intended person. It has created shocking waves of shame and ringing bell of alarming for the Naga society in particular and the world in general. That violation of human rights and dignity of a human person is being committed even by the people’s mandated organization. With such act of boycotting Charenamei on alleged ground of anti-Naga propagations in the recent election, UNC is seen as dictator Govt. more than a civil organization. The culture of practicing the biblical principle that enjoin, “Do unto others as you want them to do unto you” or the reasoning that, “if I were Jesus in such a situation what would I do or say?” Or “if I were in his/her place how would I do, feel or say” is seemingly lost from the leaders’ hearts and heads.
It is observed that the act of UNC boycotting Mani Charenamei is socially and morally unthought-of. No matter what wrong or crime he may have committed, it is a blunder to assassinate personal character and his political career. His wrong and the wrong of UNC can be equally or unequally matched when measured with a yardstick of justice. Such an act has reflected more of lacking political immaturity than revealing the supposedly culprit for the failing of NPF in Manipur MP election. If UNC carries the mandate and authority of the whole Naga people in Manipur, It should refrain from favoring or supporting Indian political party, be it NagaPF, CongPF or BJPF or what not or whatever name be given. If UNC is with any political party, its mandatory is lost and so also the authority as People’s apex Organization. The game is lost so also the name. If Charenamei deserves to be penalized with such a penalty by any civil organization or any Govt, no lesser is
Prof. Gangmumei or Gaikhangam or any other leaders who oppose or don’t support the Naga cause. In our paradoxical society, powers are misused and corrupted, absolute power corrupt and misuse absolutely.
If branding or alleging Charenamei is factual, UNC must call him for needful explanation and correction. So also Charenamei is responsible to clarify his position before UNC. The matter could be solved within. Our social tendency to find-fault is spoiling ourselves and society. Trying to drag the other person down will both suffers the lost. The crime of character assassination, through media is an open crime often-time considered acceptable. I would say on this is a big wrong and it must be changed and not repeated.
Appealed that, branding and labeling or ostracizing a person on the ground of politically established notion or ideologies must be shunned. That the Boycotting statement of UNC over Mani Charenamei be lifted by act of reconciliation through mutual negotiation. It is unhealthy to harbor hatred in the heart and wrong to remain in the society unresolved.
