ANYONE can be a hero; it is the act of heroism which makes a hero; likewise, a group of people, acting in concert, to perform an act of heroism are all heroes. An act of heroism is a deed accomplished against near impossible odds, for the welfare and benefit of society, state or nation; success or failure of the deed is immaterial, what counts is the courage, determination and perseverance in attempting the deed. The members of Against Corruption And Unabated Taxation are real heroes in every sense of the word. They are the David going up against the Goliath of Corruption in Nagaland; a Goliath which comprises the entire establishment, both overground, (lawmakers and the guardians of the law), and underground, (all factions). David had his sling and the stones he picked up, in his battle against Goliath. But the A.C.A.U.T. faces even greater odds in its battle against corruption; for though it has the stones (the charges of corruption against the high and mighty), it lacks the sling (the law enforcement agencies) to launch its stones. Those in power cannot hide behind the excuse that they didn’t start the all pervasive practises of corruption. They are perpetuating it. Even thieves and prostitutes practise their profession in the dark and away from the eyes of the public. But our misbegotten “leaders” are worse than thieves and prostitutes in that they practise their looting and plundering in broad daylight, in full view of the public. They may have a misguided sense of their importance but they are nothing more than petty thieves; and their wives and children are just the wives and children of thugs who thrive on their ill-gotten gains. And we, the people of Nagaland are to blame for all of it. We look up to and idolise anyone with money, irrespective of how they come by it. We worship Mammon, not Christ. And given half a chance, we would do the same, if not worse. In every other society in the world, those who expose corruption have the comfort of knowing that they have the support of society. But in Nagaland, we don’t, because we are all the same. It is very commendable that the C.N.T.C. has come out in support of the A.C.A.U.T.; and now it is time for all Organisations, from the Naga Hoho to the N.S.F. down to the tribal organisations to come out and speak out against the forest of corruption that is Nagaland. And most importantly, I urge the N.B.C.C. and all other Church Organisation to speak out against corruption; for it the greatest evil that the Nagas have ever faced. Change your “Clean Election Campaign” to “Clean Nagaland Campaign” if you are to prove to all intelligent Nagas that you worship CHRIST and not MAMMON. For it is written in The Bible:-“..the unpunished crime is never regretted”(Isiah53:12) and unless we raise our voices in protest and punish the criminals, we will never end corruption. For God has chosen you as the shepherds of Nagaland and The Holy Bible says, ”Woe to my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword strike his arm and his right eye! Let his arm be wholly withered, his right eye utterly blinded!”(Zechariah 11:17) GOD BLESS A.C.A.U.T. and GOD SAVE MY NAGALAND Kahuto Chishi Sumi G.B. Hevishe Village Dimapur
