[dropcap]E[/dropcap]verybody thought Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed but he is still in his old self. He chooses to remain mute even as the stalemate persists in the Parliament for the fifth day on Friday over the conversion row. This is stiff-necked Narendra Modi again. He is stiff and conservative when comes to any issue related to religion or communal related issue. The Gujarat riot of 2002 happened when Narendra Modi was the chief minister. So many lives were claimed in the incident. It was communalism in nature.Triggered by the Godhra incident that killed 58 Hindu pilgrims the communal violence broke out in Gujarat. There was a pogrom. Around 800 Muslims were killed in the violence. However, Narendra Modi did not utter a word to calm the situation. Being the chief minister he should own the responsibility for the farce affairs of the time. Fierce criticisms flew around the world against him. But these did not affect Mr Modi. He even did not say sorry for the incident which continued for three months. He remained indifferent to the Gujarat pogrom for the next ten years or so.
Today, intense uproar is witnessed in the Parliament on the conversion row. No regular session could be held in the past five days in the Parliament especially in the Upper House due to the ‘united’ Opposition charges on the BJP led NDA government. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is callous to the situation and hurt-sentiment of the minorities. He comes and goes but would not say anything in connection with the row. Newspapers and commentators have been cautioning the NDA government that the conversion row has the potential to explode into a bigger law and order problem of the country. But these warnings did not deter the Prime Minister.
Senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his words on controversial issues threatening secular fabric of the country would rather enhance his stature.
