[dropcap]A[/dropcap]DDING a third dimension to Laparoscopic surgery, Oking Hospital, Kohima has acquired the latest 3D laparoscopic surgery camera from Karl Storz, Germany. A team of doctors from the hospital successfully performed laparoscopic surgeries for the first time in Kohima after acquiring the device.A press note from the hospital quoting Dr Vikethonyü Kesiezie, Managing Director, Oking Hospital, Kohima said the 3D laparoscopic surgery camera has been initiated for the first time in Nagaland as well as in eastern part of India.
“With the new 3D technology surgeons can perform all kinds of surgeries with ease and almost zero errors during operation process as the 3D technology is very clear and presents an accurate representation of how things actually look like inside the body,” explained Dr Kesiezie.
Oking Hospital has acquired this 3D technology for the safety of patients, as safety come foremost important in medical. The 3D technology means an improvement in safety, precision and faster surgeries. Since it provides a more natural and comfortable view, even prolonged and difficult surgeries do not take its toll on the surgical team, Dr Kesiezie said.
The camera system consists of special telescope with twin chips on its tip, a processing unit and 3D monitor. The surgeon and the assistants wear special polarized glasses while performing the surgery, according to Dr Kesiezie.

“Although the technology is a welcome improvement, it is also very expensive,” he said.
