Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): Participants and officials for the upcoming South Asian Cross Country Championship and the 56th National Cross Country Championship have started arriving in Nagaland.
A total of 38 participants and guests landed at Dimapur airport on Wednesday afternoon, DPRO Dimapur informed.
Team Nepal comprising nine members is the first international team to have reached Nagaland, while participants and guests from Gujarat, Telengana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh have also reached Nagaland. On arrival, the participants and guests were received by members of the reception committee at Dimapur airport.
The guests/participants were connected with their respective liason officers through the reception committee after which they proceeded to Kohima.
Many more teams would be arriving on Wednesday night by train. The reception committee and security personnel will be at the train station 24x7 to facilitate the participants arriving.
Many more VVIPs, international and national teams will be arriving on March 24 and 26, via air and train.
In a congratulatory letter to the selected volunteers for the upcoming South Asian Cross-Country Championships and 56th National Cross-Country Championships, Abu Metha said that it is an honour for the people involved in organising the event as it is one of Nagaland's biggest and most significant sports event.
Metha, who is the co-convenor of the organising committee, stated that the backbone of all major sports events in the world is the volunteers and reminded them not only to assist in the execution of their given responsibilities but also to be an ambassador for India and Nagaland.
He expressed his appreciation to the volunteers on behalf of the organising committee for volunteering and contributing towards the success of the historic event and thanked them for being a part of the team.
