Officials of Nagaland State Commission for Women visit Longleng

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Commission for Women, Chairperson W. Nginyeih Konyak along with members Kekhrienuo Meyase, Akokla Longchar and Legal Consultant, Apila Sangtam discussed various issues with the Phomla Hoichem, apex women organisation of the Phom community, during their visit to Longleng on November 9 and 10.

The NSCW officials along with Phomla Hoichem members and EAC Sadar visited District Hospital Longleng, took a tour of the hospital wards and interacted with the medical officers and nurses during the visit, said an update from DIPR.

The team also visited the Women Police Station and Sakhi- One Stop Centre at Longleng. They discussed various challenges faced by the institutions with regard to women welfare and protection of their rights and the need to address the issue faced by women affected by violence and substance abuse, it added.

While stressing the need to provide a safe medium for afflicted women and to create more awareness on various issues such as cybercrime and domestic violence, the NSCW chairperson also encouraged Phomla Hoichem to continue playing an active role in collaboration with the district administration, police and other line departments to promote women welfare and empowerment, as well as tackle the menace of substance abuse in the district.

She reiterated the need to strengthen rehabilitation services in the district.

The team also visited and interacted with officials and female inmates at the District Jail, Longleng and paid a courtesy visit to the SP office, Longleng.
