Our Correspondent Kohima, August 8 (EMN): Parliamentary Secretary for Economics & Statistics and SCERT, Er Kropol Vitsu Tuesday cautioned his department officers and staffs to refrain from leaking confidential reports to the public ahead of time. Speaking at the felicitation programme organised by the department in his honour, Er Vitsu while stating his observation about the many cases of leakage of confidential reports in some departments, he warned the office staffs from taking any steps which will invite trouble and disorder within the office. “The department will maintain transparency, while the public will know when it is time to know. However, in some offices, there had been cases of handing over office files to private parties which had led to troubles. Let us avoid all these unnecessary harassments,” he said reiterating that office files should be strictly handled by the deputed staff and no other. Stressing on the importance of team work, he also urged the need of togetherness among the staffs as they will have to depend on each other for the smooth functioning of the office. Stating that the role played by the department of Economics & Statistics plays is vital, he urged the officers and staffs of the entire department to render their best so as to take Nagaland forward. “The department staffs have to take extra care in presenting your reports, because all the other departments in the State will rely on the statistics and data presented by our department,” Er Vitsu said maintaining that the department have to be thorough in collecting data, and also analyse it properly before public consumption. “We cannot afford to make (any) mistakes. This way accurate and correct information can be disseminated to the public,” he added. Though stating that only a few months are left before the next general election, the parliamentary secretary was positive that many things can be achieved even during this short period if the department work as a team. On the day, the first series of new Consumer Price Index (CPI) for rural, urban and combined, was also released by the Parliamentary Secretary Er Kropol Vistu, while it also coincided with the State level training for National Sample Survey (NSS) 75th round. Giving a highlight on the new CPI publication, deputy director of the department, Neidilhou Angami, said that the CPI measures the relative change of price of a fixed set of goods and services consumed by a defined set of families in a particular area with reference to the base year. “The CPI will be a useful tool in generating and adjusting real wages and salaries, taxation, price policy and other economic policies,” he said expressing hope that it will be useful for policy makers while implementing their policies and targets. The director Y Sacheo Ovung also urged all the officers and staffs to rededicate themselves while executing their assignments so as to take the department and the State forward.
