Officer warns of heavy fines to defaulters after plastic ban

Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): With the imposition of total ban on plastic coming into force following strict orders from Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and area leaders, SDO (C) Kuhuboto, Anoka Assumi has warned that defaulters would be penalised with heavy fines.
Anoka stated this at an IEC campaign on Swachhta Hi Seva (Cleanliness is service) event held at Kuhuboto town hall on September 25 on the theme “Plastic waste shramdaan (Awareness and management)” as special guest. While expressing support to the mass movement to ban plastic, he that defaulters would be penalised with heavy fines. He also expressed the need to bring in alternative solutions to replace plastic, an update from Vibou Seyie, IEC consultant, stated on Wednesday.

With growing population, he also shared the need for identifying and constructing a dumping site at Kuhuboto town. He administered the pledge to ban plastic to all the participants from 42 villages.

Longchendi, JE, PHED, chaired the programme, while the welcome address was delivered by Kakugha, vice chairman of Kuhuboto Adhoc Town Committee.

SDO, PHED, Kuhuboto, Er. R Imtisowa reviewed the Swachh Bharat Mission and dwelt on the need to join forces to make the campaign a success.

Cloth bags were distributed to all the village functionaries. Another important feature of the programme was tea served in bamboo mugs made by locals as a replacement to single-use plastic cups.

Vibou Seyie, IEC consultant, spoke on the objectives of Swachhta Hi Seva and ill-effects of plastic. The vote of thanks was delivered by Honito Yeptho, chairman of WATSAN, Kuhuboto. The programme was sponsored by WSSO, PHED.
