Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): During the period April 2019 to January 2020, 881 persons were found to be HIV +ve in the general category. Of them, 57 pregnant women were found to be HIV +ve from among 4,025 who were tested, the Dimapur district health agencies report.

The information was given during the 4th quarterly meeting of the district AIDS prevention and control committee (DAPCC) of Dimapur district, which was conducted in the deputy commissioner’s (DC) conference hall on February 27 in Dimapur.

The department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates on Thursday informing about the meeting.

DC Anoop Khinchi has called for ‘better coordination among all stakeholders’ in the district and to create an action plan to achieve the goals in the area.

A DAPCU official, Yanger Aier, gave a report concerning the HIV scenario in the district. He highlighted that during the period April 2019 to January 2020, approximately 12,512 persons were tested for HIV, from which 881 were found to be HIV +ve in the general category. 57 pregnant women were also found to be HIV +ve from 4,025 tested.

According to the official, the routes of transmissions were sexual at 95%, parent-to-child at 3% and through needle syringes at 2%.

On the status of ART, he informed that a total number of 10,836 persons were registered as on January 31 2020, from which 7,762 patients started ART, 1020 have died, 4564 are alive and on ART, while 613 were “lost to follow up,” the IPR reported.

During the meeting, the members discussed at length matters concerning prevention of transmission of HIV from mother to child; different programmes and schemes for infected and affected people; nutritional support and problems faced by beneficiaries in availing the benefits, shortage of manpower at ART centres, and various possible platforms that can spread awareness, the IPR stated.
