Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): The commissioner and secretary of the Social Welfare department, Sarah R Ritse, inaugurated a newly constructed government observation home at Bahok ward in Longleng town on February 17.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Sarah stated that Longleng is the third district in Nagaland to have a government observation home for juveniles, for both girls and boys. The building was meant to house juveniles in conflict with the law during the pendency of a case, a DIPR report stated.

She encouraged the district child protection unit (DCPU) and all stakeholders to work together and mentor the juveniles to become decent and responsible citizens.

The programme was attended by a host of dignitaries including T Mhabemo Yanthan, commissioner and secretary to the Governor; M Shayung Phom, deputy commissioner of Longleng; K Wango Langsym, assistant director of Social Welfare department; Holika Sukhalu, JMFC and principal magistrate of JJB, Longleng; CWC chairperson Chingsha Phom; and T Longlang Lakpan, CDPO Longleng, among others.

In another programme, Sarah inaugurated a Sakhi-One Stop Center in Tuensang on February 18.

Sarah appreciated the district administration for the successful completion of the OSC buildings in the district. She stated that the OSC facility does not belong to the Social Welfare department alone but a collective property of all the stakeholders involved in helping ‘women in distress’ irrespective of departments.

She also advised the people of Tuensang to cooperate with the district administration and OSC to enable them function at their best and benefit the people of the district.

The deputy commissioner of Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, delivered the welcome address, while the program was chaired by Sakhi-OSC administrator, Chulongla, and the dedicatory prayer for the OSC building was said by Rev. Achu, CBLT executive secretary.
