NYKS organises Neighbourhood Youth Parliament in Kohima

NYKS functionaries along with the students and faculty of Modern Institute of Teacher Education in Kohima on Wednesday.

DIMAPUR — Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Nagaland, organised a district-level Neighbourhood Youth Parliament in collaboration with the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC) of the Modern Institute of Teacher Education in Kohima on Wednesday.

According to a press release, during the event, John Makhabo, director in-charge of NYKS Nagaland, provided a brief introduction about NYKS. He highlighted the organisation’s contributions and discussed new initiatives aimed at youth development. Makhabo stressed the importance of educated individuals taking positive action within their communities to foster societal development.

Special guest Toshi O Longkumer, an advocate, spoke about constitutional rights, highlighting the significance of fundamental rights for the people. He encouraged students to comprehend the various articles within the Constitution of India, particularly in the context of Nagaland.

Dr. H L Gangte, vice principal, speaking about ‘Nari Shakti’, highlighted numerous government schemes aimed at empowering women. Additionally, Kavani Hekha, assistant professor, spoke on ‘New India, new initiatives’. In her address, she outlined various government schemes designed for societal development.

The release mentioned that the student teachers participated in a mock parliament, emulating real politicians. They were divided into two groups: the ruling party and the opposition party.

The session was led with discussions on the themes of India versus Bharath, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar, principal, along with Limanenla Lkr and Zuchano M Patton, served as judges.

It concluded with the distribution of cash prizes to the participants.
