Dimapur, Oct. 26 (EMN): Nyenshen FC defended the Loyem Memorial Trophy on Saturday by defeating Khulioh King FC 1-0 in the final match played at Loyem Memorial Ground in Tuensang.
An update from the organisers informed that Khulioh King FC had entered the tournament as one of the favourites. After winning all their previous matches in the tournament, they failed to defeat Nyenshen in the final game.
Both the teams were not able to score in the first half of the game. In the 55th minute, Ratobe of Nyenshen scored to send the supporters into frenzy.
After the goal, it was simply a matter of locking down the defence for the eventual champions. They came close to scoring another goal in the dying minutes, hitting the crossbar. Despite heavy rains, windy and cold weather, the ground was fully packed with football lovers, according to the organisers.
The winners walked away with trophy, certificates, medals and a cash prize of INR 2,10,000.
The runner-up also received certificates, medals and a cash prize of INR 1,10,000.
Longkhoi of Khulioh King FC received the golden boot; Olando of Nyenshen FC and Tia of DEF, Tuensang won the golden ball. Each semi-finalist also received INR 25,000.
