The 24th Naga Style, 9th Senior & 5th Junior Freestyle Wrestling tournament of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) is scheduled to be held at Kohima Local Ground on March 4 and 5with Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister, Nagaland & President, Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) as the chief guest and TR. Zeliang, Minister for Planning & Co-ordination, Geology & Mining & Evaluation, Nagaland as the guest of honour.
Day one will witnessed Naga style where 54 wrestlers-18 each from Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), Angami Sports Association (ASA) and Zeliang Wrestling Association (ZWA) will vie vying for the coveted title. Khruzoto Tetseo was crowned as CWA Champion and Megosier Khate was crowned as ASA Champion.
This year edition cash prizes in Naga style are Rs.2, 00, 000 for the champion which is being sponsored by Rokolhou Angami, Class-I Contractor. Second prize, Rs.1, 50, 000 sponsored by Kudechoyi Khamo, Proprietor, CK. Enterprises, third prize, Rs.1, 00, 000 sponsored by Kuchi R. Zeliang, MD, Hi-Tech Construction and 4th prize-50,000 sponsored by Vikedosie Kehie, CE, Police Project. The four losing quarter finalists will also pocketed a sum of Rs.10, 000 each while the group champion will walk away with Rs.15, 000 along with running trophy.
Rs.10, 000 and Rs.5000 shall be awarded to the best 2 wrestlers for both men & women in senior category while, Rs.5000 and Rs.3000 shall be awarded to the best 2 wrestlers for both men and women in junior category.
Reigning NWA Champion Kezhalelie Keretsu will be tourney torch bearer, while Keku Zeliang, former NWA president would light the torch.
The association has, meanwhile, informed that the referees and judges clinic will be held at local ground on March 3 by 1.00.PM, while a combine meeting of all the management officials, affiliated units officials, NWA officials will be held at the same venue at 3.00 PM on the same day.
Annual membership fee of Rs.2000 for 2013-2014 will be realised from all units and list of unit players lists should reach the NWA office on or before March 1, it informed. Units are also directed to support the Birth certificate of the junior free style wrestlers by competent authority below 20 years and above 18 years. Measuring of weight for all categories of free style will be done on March 3 at Local ground at 2.00 PM.
