The comparative record of foreigners registration before the implementation of the Immigration Visa and Foreigners Registration & Tracking (IVFRT) shows relative increase in the tourist traffic into Nagaland. Current records show that Koreans and Americans rank the highest among the various nationalities that visited Nagaland. From 2012 till March 2014, 153 nationalities from various corners of the world registered as visitors to the state.
In 2012, 19 Americans and 27 Koreans registered with the passport and foreigners cell under the Superintendent of Police of Dimapur district. In 2013, 22 Americans and 31 Koreans entered Nagaland.
The comparative record of ‘foreign entry’ during 2012, 2013 and 2014 shows an increased traffic where during 2012, about 1, 548 foreigners entered Nagaland. During 2013, approximately 1, 577 foreigners visited Nagaland. Likewise, in the year 2014 as many as 1, 939 foreigners visited the state.
Over the years, Nagaland has been hosting increased numbers of both domestic and foreign visitors in and off season. The record also highlights an increased number of foreigners during the months of November and December where tourists come to witness the most visible festival of Nagaland, the Hornbill Festival.
The increasing number of tourists visiting Nagaland proves that the state, one of the smallest states in the country, is being discovered by the outside world. That angle may be considered a positive development for the region both in social and economic terms.
