NU organises workshop on ‘Naga traditional knowledge education’

DIMAPUR — With an aim to foster a deeper understanding of Naga culture and heritage through alternative educational approaches, the English department of Nagaland University (NU), Kohima campus, organised a national workshop on ‘Naga traditional knowledge education: Implementation of alternative curriculum’ on February 27.

An update from the university stated that professor at IIT Delhi and founder of SPIC MACAY, Prof. Kiran Seth, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on ‘Culture and heritage.’ It added that Prof. Seth’s insights provided participants with a unique perspective on the significance of preserving and promoting traditional knowledge within the educational framework.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nigamananda Das, head of English department, expressed gratitude to Prof. Kiran Seth for his valuable contribution to the workshop and emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting cultural diversity and heritage awareness.

It mentioned that the workshop was designed to benefit faculty members, scholars, and students by offering a platform to explore various perspectives and diversities within the Naga language.

It stated that the participants engaged in fruitful discussions, shared experiences and gained insights into innovative approaches to incorporating traditional knowledge into the academic curriculum.

It further stated that English department at Nagaland University is committed to fostering a holistic educational environment that recognises and respects the rich cultural heritage of the Naga people. It added that the success of the workshop reflected the department’s dedication to providing a platform for dialogue and learning that transcends conventional boundaries.
