Dimapur, August 7 : The Nagaland Tribes’ Council (NTC) has expressed concern over granting of anticipatory bail to the kingpins of the illicit business of fuel, saying though it is the legal privilege of any citizen of India to approach the judiciary, the courts should be sensitive towards the public outcry and public interest issues.
The NTC urged the State government to initiate immediate step to challenge the anticipatory bail so that the process of investigation is not obstructed. “Make a comprehensive investigation on the scam by a competent authority without complacency and bring all the culprits to book in the general interest of the people.”
Chairman, Media Cell, NTC Theja Therieh in a press note said, “The kingpin has taken advantage on the casual and callous attitude of the administration and taking shelter under a powerful protection, resuming the same business as reported is nothing but a total disregard to the popular resentment of the citizens of the State.”
The NTC is also concerned over the specific case of ACAUT activists at Zunheboto Town being under threat by the cadres of an NPG purportedly at the behest of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and his subordinates in connection with 24% deduction from staff salary.
“Such unholy alliance between the NPG and the greedy State Govt. employees has been a menace not only to the gullible Govt. employees but also has been the major pilferage of public funds over the years. The threat to ACAUT activists is highly condemnable and the indulgence of responsible Govt. officers as agents of NPG is a blatant violation of service rules.”
Meanwhile, NTC also pointed out that the Zeliang Peoples’ Organization (ZPO) had lodged a complaint to Commissioner, Nagaland against the alleged issue of Scheduled Certificate, Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate and Backward Tribe Certificate to two persons, namely K. Rangsobe, s/o Peining and Lunghilang Pamai s/o Ramlan allegedly from Manipur who appeared NPSC Exam 2016 vice No. 15424 and No. 15663 respectively in the name of Zeliang tribe.
Stating that the complaint is a serious breach of existing law where non-indigenous tribal candidate or a non-member of a backward tribe cannot avail any job out of coercion, the NTC urged upon the concerned authorities to immediately investigate to the allegations and take appropriate action as per law.
