NSLSA to conduct national Lok Adalat on Sep. 10

Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) has announced conducting the 3rd quarterly national Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) in all the district headquarters on September 10.

An update from NSLSA informed that a total of 11 Lok Adalat benches at district court premises would be set up by the district legal services authority (DLSAs).

In this regard, NSLSA executive chairman and judge of Guahati High Court, Kohima Bench, Justice Songkhupchung Serto along with its member secretary, N Longshithung Ezung, recently held a meeting with DLSA chairpersons and secretaries and directed DLSAs to take steps in advance and hold meeting with bankers, insurance companies among others to formulate strategy before the Lok Adalat. DLSAs were also instructed to take up MACT cases, criminal compoundable cases, negotiable instrument act cases, matrimonial cases on priority for the said Lok Adalat.

It mentioned that Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms and a forum where cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised speedily and amicably. It stated that the national Lok Adalat is held on a quarterly basis and had benefited the citizens with the privilege of settling disputes free of cost all across the state.

It has asked any person, having dispute/ cases (pre-litigation and pending) on civil, matrimonial, MACT and petty offence cases, to come forward and submit the case at DLSA front offices, district court buildings and NSLSA member secretary office or contact 0370-2290153 or email at nslsa.nagaland@gov.in.

It added that during its 2nd quarterly national Lok Adalat held on July 10, a total of 24 cases out of 38 in eight district headquarters with a total settlement amount of INR 36,35,776 were settled.
