DIMAPUR — The directorate of State Lotteries has notified that the lotteries organised by the State of Nagaland and marketed by its distributor is a legal activity and do not fall under the category of illegal or unauthorised gambling.
Director, Nagaland State Lotteries (NSL), Zhothisa Dawhuo, in a public notice, informed that the state government organises, conducts and promotes State lotteries in accordance with the provisions of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998; the Lotteries (Regulation) Rules, 2010, and the Nagaland Lotteries (Regulation) Rules, 2022.
The Government of Nagaland has appointed M/s Future Gaming and Hotel Services Pvt. Ltd., as distributor of Nagaland for sale and marketing of state lottery tickets in states wherever permissible, the director said.
The notice also stated that the distributor has been authorised to appoint entities to be its sub-distributor, area distributor, stockists and retailers etc., to sell the lottery tickets.
“The Distributor pays GST @ 28% to the State of Nagaland for tickets sold in the state and also other taxes levied either by the central or the state governments. Currently, Nagaland State Lotteries under the brand name ‘Dear Lotteries’ are marketed in West Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Nagaland (commenced w.e.f. the draws held on 12.06.2023),” it stated.
It went on to state that the entire draw process is conducted under strict supervision of the director, Nagaland State Lotteries, and are telecast live on the Youtube channel, even after the winning numbers are announced.
“The lotteries results are drawn only on four digits number and not on the basis of single, double and triple digits or any form of combination,” it added.
