NSHRC inspects Chümoukedima PS after teen’s suicide in custody
DIMAPUR — A team from the Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) visited the Chümoukedima Police Station on Saturday, October 7, just days after a 19-year-old boy committed suicide inside the station.
According to a DIPR report, the NSHRC team was led by chairperson Justice Songkhupchung Serto, and the purpose of their visit was to investigate the tragic incident that unfolded on October 3.
Serto and his team held an extensive inquiry with the officials and staff who were on duty during the unfortunate incident, and following the inquiry, they proceeded to inspect the lock-up where the young man had committed suicide.
Also, the team collected crucial footage and data necessary for further examination.
During the interaction with the police station’s officers and staff, Serto emphasised the importance of vigilance and the implementation of a roster system to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. He also stressed the need for proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in custody.
CP Kevithuto Sophie, DCP K M Munesh, and ACP Ninoto Zhimomi were present during the team’s visit.
