DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Human Rights Commission (NSHRC) observed Human Rights Day at its office in Kohima on Monday.
Speaking on “Promoting and Protecting Human Rights and the Role of State Human Rights Commission” in his keynote address, Justice Songkhupchung Serto, Chairperson of NSHRC, stressed the significance of the 30 articles of the commission, stated an update from DIPR.
Maintaining that Human Rights Day serves as a reminder to strive for a better world, he urged the gathering a renewed commitment to humanity, emphasising NSHRC’s efforts to protect people’s rights and encouraging the utilisation of the Human Rights Act.
On individual responsibilities, Serto emphasised the duty towards neighbours and friends, asserting that freedom, while comprehensive, is bounded by the rights of others.
Noting that other human rights commissions in other states are addressing delays in pension cases, he called on legal professionals to educate the public. He also highlighted NSHRC’s openness to addressing various human rights violations.
The programme was chaired by NSHRC Secretary Limanenla, and R Nzanbemo from Kohima Law College presented a song.
