NSF President Mteisuding urges Naga political groups to unite, while defending the federation’s Independence Day boycott over revised Vande Mataram
KOHIMA — Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Mteisuding on Friday urged Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to come together as one entity, terming the “mushrooming” of multiple groups unfortunate.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the 80th Naga Independence Day celebration in Kohima, he said the federation would send a clear message to all NPGs that “Nagas don’t have a different solution” and that they must come together based on a common political objective.
He reminded that Nagas have “one destination, one goal and one objective”, and urged the groups to unite despite the proliferation of political organisations in recent times.
The NSF has been “championing the Naga political movement” and would continue to raise its voice, he added.

On the federation’s decision to boycott the Independence Day celebrations on Saturday, Mteisuding clarified that the federation was not opposed to the national song or symbols of any country. He said the objection was specifically to the “revised” Vande Mataram being made mandatory for singing or playing during official functions.
He asserted that the NSF was opposing and boycotting Vande Mataram “with a clear conscience”.
The NSF has directed student communities to refrain from participating in Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026.
