NSF urges govt to decide on future of 3 medical institutes

THE Naga Students federation (NSF) has sought a clear decision from the State Government as to whether three medical institutes connected to the department of Health and Family Welfare (H & FW) should continue or be closed down. These institutes are Indian Institute of Para Medical Technology (IIPMT) Kohima, Institute of Management of Medical Research, Health Science and School of Nursing (IMMRHSSN) Singrijan and Para Medical Training Institute (PMTI) Industrial Estate, Dimapur.In a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, NSF president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho, stated that the Directorate of Higher Education had issued notification to the Institute of Management of Medical Research, Health Science and School of Nursing (IMMRHSSN) Singrijan, Dimapur and to Para Medical Training Institute (PMTI) Industrial Estate, Dimapur on May 7, 2012 and Sept 14, 2012 respectively for re-opening of the Institutes. However, since the department of H & FW ‘does not officially recognize the Institutes as well as the students passing out from these Institutes’, the students and parents are still in a state of confusion about their future.
The NSF leaders further urged the Government to ‘urgently’ direct the H & FW department to inspect the aforementioned Institutes and make its position clear within 14 days time in order to clarify the doubts and confusion. In the event of these Institutes being directed to discontinue or if the H & FW department is not satisfied with the outcome of the inspections, then “the department should also immediately terminate the services of those employees whom they have already recruited through improper means as the same yardstick should be applied to all the trainees of these institutes,” the memorandum added.
Copies of the memorandum were also sent to the Commissioner& Secretary, H & FW for necessary action and to the Commissioner & Secretary, Higher Education for information and necessary action.
