NSF Trophy: Nagaland Police juggernaut rolls on

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 8: Nagaland Police (Red) humbled Kigwema Students’ Union 6-0 to advance to the third round of the ongoing NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy here at Kohima local ground.
Nagaland Police (Red), considered as one of the contenders of this edition, have been a crowd-puller during their matches thus far.
The police team took an early lead when Limakumzuk scored in the 5th minute, followed by another goal in the 10th minute through Ratobe.
Playing a match in which they had the upper hand throughout, the police team allowed no relaxation and kept pressing hard to the opponent’s defence line.
Nagaland Police midfielder Kekhrie Tsira scored in the 20th minute, while Ratobe went on to score his second goal in the 23rd minute.
Moving into the final minutes of the first half, Kekhrie scored the fifth goal for the police team to end the first half with 5-0.
The second half witnessed lesser goals as Kigwema SU were able to at least restrict the police team from scoring more, except Lipok’s goal in the 63rd minute to make it 6-0 in favour of Nagaland Police (Red).
Earlier in the first match, Nagabazar Youth Organisation survived a scare against Headwings FC, Chiechama, to make it to the third round.
Playing a thrilling match, both teams exhibited equal skills and fought hard to stay in the game. The first half remained in goalless draw. It was Headwings FC who drew the first blood when Vizosie-o Metha scored in the 42nd minute. But Nagabazar YO came back strongly to score the equalizer in the 56th minute through Atho.
The match headed for a tie-breaker as both the teams were locked in 1-1 draw till the end of the stipulated time, wherein, the Nagabazar YO emerged victorious.
The scheduled second match of the day could not be played as Faith Sporting Club, Dimapur, failed to take ground. Therefore, Meriema Village Youth Organisation was declared as winners to advance to the next round.
