NSF Trophy: Circle FC, Tangkhul Katamnao advance to quarter-finals

KOHIMA — Circle FC Chedema and Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong secured their places in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 24th edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy after winning their respective matches on Saturday.

The tournament, organised by the Angami Students’ Union, is being held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.

In the first match of the day, the seventh pre-quarter-final, Circle FC Chedema defeated Khrietho FC Meriema 2-0. Joseph scored both goals for Circle FC, netting in the 26th and 41st minutes.

Kennedy Lalboi Kuki of Circle FC Chedema was named Man of the Match. Petevizo Kezieo of Khrietho FC Meriema, along with Joseph, Henry, and Neikedozo Tsira of Circle FC Chedema, were cautioned for foul play.

In the second match, which was the last pre-quarter-final, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) dominated Tribal Stallions FC with a 6-0 win. Ramchan Shatsang opened the scoring early in the 8th minute, followed by a hat-trick from Aimso Chithung in the 13th, 59th, and 64th minutes.

Additional goals from Machimmi Kashung in the 75th minute and Worchuipei Kashung in the 89th minute secured Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong’s place in the quarter-finals.

Aimso Chithung of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong was named Man of the Match. Meanwhile, Hevika and Sarhon of Tribal Stallions FC were cautioned for foul play.

The quarterfinals are set to begin on Monday at 3 pm.

‘Clash of the Stars’ today

On Sunday, there will be a “Clash of the Stars” featuring NSF XI, AYO XI, ASU XI, and ASU Seniors FC, starting at 12 noon. L Dikho, MLA, government of Manipur, will attend the occasion as the special guest.
