Dimapur, April 24 (EMN): Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has announced to hold election of office bearers to various posts for the tenure 2019-2021 on May 10 coinciding with its three-day 28th biennial general conference in Bhandari town in Wokha district.
A joint press release issued by the chairman of election commission Meitsikhoyo Yhobuh, member secretary Krelo Eshwo, and member Jungithung Yanthan stated that in exercise of the powers vested to the election commission and in pursuance of sub-section C of Section 3 of Article 26 of its constitution, the model code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect.
It stated that all the intending candidates should fulfil the qualifications for candidates laid down in Section 2 of Article 26 of the constitution of NSF. Should there be any dispute relating to interpretation of the constitution, it stated that the decision of the election commission would be final and binding.
It added that intimidation, threat, coercion and use of money power to influence voters would be viewed as a serious offence and might even forfeit candidature.
The release stated solicitation of votes through alcohol or any other intoxicants would be strictly prohibited, adding campaign/ canvassing by any political party/ parties or outside force in favour of any candidate would be strictly prohibited.
It also stated that federating units not fulfilling the minimum 30 delegates attending the 28th general conference would forfeit their voting rights from the electoral college and their candidature for contesting any given post in the election.
Every intending/ aspiring candidate asked to compulsorily attend the introductory session without which their candidature for contesting any post would not be entertained. It added that induction of any losing candidate in the current tenure would be strictly prohibited.
The release also stated that election monitoring committee would enforce the model code of conduct and violation would attract disqualification of his/her candidature.
All concerned are directed to strictly adhere to the code and the election commission. The commission further sought the cooperation of all concerned for smooth conduct of election process.
